Baby Step Two

Today I took my second baby step.  I ate a healthier breakfast.  I passed on the sweet roll, the sugar cereal, the chocolate milk (hmm, chocolate milk might still be an option, but maybe writing this will help me pass on it this morning).  All those breakfasts are fast, easy and temporarily satisfying.   But I decided I was worth taking the time for an even more delicious, and more healthy meal.  I took the time to fix it, and enjoy it.  And I feel better.

My girlfriend gave me an Oprah show she taped a couple of weeks ago.  It’s Oprah’s challenge to 1,000,000 viewers to lose weight and become healthier over the next year. I signed up.  I printed off Bob Greene’s contract, but I haven’t signed it yet.  That will be another step. I am carrying it around with me, though, working up the courage to make that commitment.

I’m trying to figure out why I’m so afraid to have a better life and enjoy it.  Until I figure it out, I will keep taking the eensie-weensie baby steps.

Thank you everyone for your words of wisdom and your examples.

  1. I will have to look that show up……if Oprah says we should do it, who are we to argue? Good for you on eating a healthy breakfast. I know when I do it, it helps me throughout the day as well.

  2. One step at a time, I say. Tomorrow — the healthy breakfast. Who knows what you’ll try next week? Keep us posted.

  3. See, that’s what my psychiatrist friend says: “What is the real issue that your food issue is a symptom of?” I think the fact that you are questioning is a very, very healthy sign. You can do this. WE can do this. And personally, I think it will be easier to deal with the underlying issues when I’m wearing some hot size eight jeans…

  4. Hee hee…I’m giggling over Barb’s comment. Can’t wait to be a size eight weight. Ahh…I kill me!

I can identify with that feeling of fear, but I’m not sure what I’m afraid of. I’ll post about it if I ever figure it out.

  5. You are afraid to sign the contract and I refuse to commit to exercising. Seriously, what are we so afraid of? Why is this goal so much harder than others we have set and reached? As for my breakfast? No comment.

  6. It can be so hard. If I could figure out the reason or reasons that I overeat then I might be able to fix it.

Keep the contract with you, the courage to sign it will come. You can do it!! We’re hear struggling right along with you.
